President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished success of National Income Tax Day 2011 on September 14, observing in the country today. In separate messages on the eve of the day, they greeted the taxpayers, income tax officials and employees and all concerned.

"We are going to organize the fair in eight divisional headquarters for the second time with an expectation of enrolling one lakh more taxpayers," said NBR chairman Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed at a press conference here today. The NBR will also observe National Income Tax Day tomorrow (Thursday) across the country to inspire people to pay income tax.
As part of the income tax day programmes, NBR will bring out a colourful rally from its Segunbagicha head-office premises at 8.00 am, Nasirudin said, adding that finance minister AMA Muhith will lead the procession. The minister will also honour 250 taxpayers having the highest and long-term tax payment records at a programme at the city's Officers' Club at 11.00 am.
"Such highest and long term income taxpayers will be given a crest and identity card as mark of recognition," he added. In Dhaka, the income tax fair will kick off at the Officers' Club at 9.30 am on September 17. Finance Minister AMA Muhith will open the fair as the chief guest while the Prime Minister's adviser on public administration affairs HT Imam as special guest, said the NBR chief. The fair will be held at the Gymnasium adjacent to MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. In Rajshahi, it will be held at Zafar Imam Tennis Complex, Helalabad, in Khulna at Kar Bhaban Chattar, Boyra, in Sylhet at Gymnasium of Sylhet Stadium, in Barisal at Barisal Club auditorium and in Rangpur at Zila Parishad Community Centre.
The fair venue will have 85 booths including banks and NBR officials and help people in preparing tax return and submitting the same. People will also be able to collect Tax Identification Number (TIN) instantly from the NBR officials. Last year, the NBR organised income tax fair in Dhaka and Chittagong for the first time drowning a tremendous response from people. Over 52,440 fresh tax returns were submitted and NBR collected revenue worth Tk 113 crore on the occasion.
